2003 Gibson Original Jumbo Reissue
Americana and blues singer-songwriter Danny Click demonstrates his go-to acoustic guitar.
Guitarist and singer Danny Click is a favorite among San Francisco Bay Area blues and Americana audiences. Whether playing with his electric band the Hell Yeahs!, solo, or his acoustic Americana Orchestra (which often features Peghead Nation instructor Mark Goldenberg), Click’s stellar songwriting, searing slide guitar, and high-energy shows have resulted in a dedicated fan base. As a recording artist, Danny has released seven albums. His 2011 release, Life Is a Good Place, spend 12 months on the country and Americana charts, and he just released the Jim Scott–produced Holding Up the Sun (Dogstar Records).
In this video, Danny demonstrates his go-to acoustic guitar, a 2003 Gibson Original Jumbo reissue. Built in Gibson’s Bozeman, Montana, custom shop, the guitar is based on the company’s 1934 Jumbo model, the original slope-shoulder dreadnought that eventually led to the J-45 and Advanced Jumbo. It is built with mahogany back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Danny has replaced the stock bone saddle with one made of fossilized ivory and he keeps the guitar’s action fairly high to provide headroom when strumming and facilitate his slide playing. gibson.com.
The guitar’s impressive volume and dynamic range are demonstrated in Danny’s performance of his song “On the Inside” (from his 1998 release, Forty Miles), which he plays in open-G tuning. dannyclick.com
