Growing exclusively in Northern California, redwood is a premium material for the tops of guitars. But despite its ideal qualities, which include great stiffness and light weight, redwood is among the more rare choices. In this video, shot in the Santa Cruz Guitars wood vault, company founder Richard Hoover discusses the wood’s attributes, dispels some misperceptions, and shows several gorgeous examples of the wood.
