In this video, Greg shows you how to expand on what you learned by incorporating a full Blake roll and some hammer-ons.

Greg shows you another key component of Norman Blake’s style in this video, in which he adds a second bass note to harmonize the pentatonic-scale melody notes you learned in the previous section. Again, you’ll start with the double-string scale and a basic Carter strum, add an up-strum, and then a variation of the Blake roll that pairs the harmonized bass notes with a quick up-down-up strum. Finally, he shows you a similar approach with a pattern that Greg calls the double-string bounce, which includes a single downstroke on the melody line with a single upstroke on the strings above.
