In this video, Greg shows you how to expand on what you learned by incorporating a full Blake roll and some hammer-ons.

| Norman Blake Techniques, Part 2 |
In this video, Greg shows you how to add melody lines to the bass lines. You’ll be playing in the key of D, but using a C-chord position with the capo on the second fret. He starts off with a simple arpeggio and shows you how to articulate those three notes as a melody while maintaining an even strum. He starts with a Carter-style bass-strum pattern, then adds an up-strum, and finally the full Norman Blake roll. He does the same exercise with a pentatonic scale. Greg notes that it is essential to articulate the picked melody notes clearly, and that the ratio of bass note-to-strum volume should be about 60/40.
