Eric Skye and Adam Levy, “Bag’s Groove” | Santa Cruz Guitars

Acoustic jazz guitar aces perform a spontaneous duet of the Milt Jackson standard.
September 15, 2022

Eric Skye and Adam Levy are both known as guitarists who explore a large musical universe. Levy’s resumé includes work with Tracy Chapman and Norah Jones, his own albums as a singer-songwriter, and a history as a heavy-hitter in the jazz world. Skye is best-known as a fingerstyle jazz player, but he also frequently wields a flatpick, playing fiddle tunes in duets with mandolinist Tim Connell and guitarist Jamie Stillway.

When Levy was recently in Skye’s hometown of Portland, Oregon for a gig, the two guitarists got together at Skye’s home to jam on a few tunes, and captured some of the proceedings on video. Because Levy was traveling without an acoustic (his gig had him playing electric guitar) he borrowed one of Skye’s Santa Cruz 00-SKYE signature models (Levy usually plays Collings and Waterloo guitars). In this video, the two guitarists play through a spontaneous take on the Milt Jackson standard “Bag’s Groove,” giving the matching pair of Santa Cruz guitars a serious workout!
