Luna Vicki Genfan SG
Fingerstylist Vicki Genfan demonstrates her signature model guitar.
Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Vicki Genfan has been a mainstay on the international fingerstyle circuit ever since receiving widespread recognition for her 2000 release Outside the Box (vickigenfan.com). Using alternate tunings and two-handed tapping and harmonic slap techniques, she creates a sound that is often compared to Michael Hedges. Vicki was the 2008 winner of Guitar Player magazine’s “Guitar Superstar” competition, and she has performed at many of the most renowned guitar festivals around the world.
In 2009, Vicki began working with Luna Guitars on creating a signature model instrument, and after extensively touring with a prototype, she gave the OK for Luna to begin creating a production version in 2010. The result is a guitar that is about the size of a 000/OM, with a cutaway and onboard electronics. The instrument is built with a solid spruce top and laminated Indian rosewood back and sides. It has a long 25.5-inch scale and a narrow neck that measures 1⅝ inches at the nut. The guitar’s B-Band electronics consist of a pickup mounted under the saddle and a preamp with controls for volume and EQ in the side of the instrument. As an optional upgrade, the guitar is also available with a USB output for recording directly to computers or iOS devices. The guitar’s top features a unique laser-etched design inspired by henna tattoos.
In this video, Vicki discusses and demonstrates her personal guitar and plays a section of her song “Living in the Country.” Also check out Vicki’s performance of her song “New Grass” on Peghead Nation!
