Stevie Coyle, “Swinging on a Star”
Peghead Nation instructor plays a fingerstyle guitar arrangement of the popular standard.
Peghead Nation Fingerstyle Guitar instructor Stevie Coyle is a long-time San Francisco Bay Area performer. Stevie performed and recorded with the Waybacks (which he co-founded) from 1999 to 2007, played in the eclectic guitar duo The Quitters, and has performed solo since the 1970s. While other activities have included work in theater stages and with a traveling circus, Stevie’s recent steady gig has been as proprietor of Mighty Fine Guitars, a high-end guitar shop in Lafayette, California.
Stevie recently stopped by the Peghead Nation video studio to record his instrumental fingerstyle arrangement of the Jimmy Van Heusen-penned classic, “Swinging on a Star.” Inspired by Pat Donohue’s parody arrangement of the tune, “Would You Like to Play the Guitar?”, Stevie’s version combines the traditional fingerpicking that he is known for (and which is the focus of his course) with a jazz-style chord-melody arrangement.
