Bill Evans created a stellar show to celebrate Earl Scruggs’ 100th birthday at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, California, in January 2024. He was joined by fellow Peghead Nation instructors Chad Manning and Evie Ladin, along with other amazing bluegrass and old-time musicians, for two sets celebrating the influence and vast legacy of Earl Scruggs. They put a cap on the night with the Bill and the “Foggy Mountain Banjo Band,” paying tribute to Scruggs and the 1972 finale from the movie “Bluegrass Country Soul.” Featured playing “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” with Bill are banjoists Larry Cohea, Evie Ladin, Sonia Shell, Tim Weed, Henry Strid, Avram Siegel, and Dan Mazer. The band also features Peghead Nation regular Jim Nunally, Kathy Kallick, Tom Bekeny, Steve Pottier, Eric and Suzy Thompson, and Allegra Thompson. It was a great night of music celebrating one of the most influential banjo players to have picked five strings!
