In Session 5, Matt teaches a tune in a minor key, “I’ve Found A New Baby,” and uses it to show you how to “harvest licks” in the style of Bud Freeman and Charlie Christian, with echoes of George Barnes. He starts by walking you through Charlie Christian’s January 15, 1941 solo on “I’ve Found A New Baby” with the Benny Goodman sextet. Then he shows you some ideas from saxophonist Bud Freeman’s playing on “I’ve Found A New Baby.” He also gives you a sheet of exercises: four-note arpeggios on the top four strings.
