This month's tune comes from West Virginia fiddler Melvin Wine, who had a major influence on several generations of old-time musicians over the years. This crooked tune modulates between the keys of G and C. Recordings of the tune are scant, but Canadian fiddler Erynn Marshall plays a lovely version on her Calico album, starting with the part in C. Wine’s version starts with the part in G, and for this lesson, we’ll call that the A part. In this video, Bruce shows you that part, starting with a curious lick on the E string, and explains how Melvyn Wine bowed the various sections of the melody.
