“Inverness” comes from fiddler/mandolinist John Mailander, who recorded it on his album Walking Distance. It’s a beautiful, contemplative melody that alternates measures of 6/4 and 4/4. Joe walks you through the second part of “Inverness” in this video.

Joe learned this contemplative Larry Siegel tune from Dakota Dave Hull and Kari Larson, who recorded it on guitar and mandolin for their 1997 Double Cappuccino album. Joe teaches the simple melody in two octaves. It’s in the key of D, with a standard AABB form. The B part starts on a V chord (A in the key of D), and ends on the IV chord (G) without resolving. In this video, Joe teaches the complete tune in the lower octave, starting down on the G strings.
