Salt Creek

The second part of “Salt Creek” moves up into third position on the E string, so Chad starts by giving you advice on shifting into third position, with an exercise to help you practice the shift. Then he walks you through the A part, finishing by giving you an example of how he makes up variations and improvises on the second part of “Salt Creek.”

San Antonio Rose, Part 1
San Antonio Rose, Part 1

Bob Wills’ western swing classic “San Antonio Rose” is a great tune to work on playing double stops in third position. Of course, it’s also a great tune to play without venturing up the fingerboard, so Chad starts by showing you the melody in first position without double stops. Played in the key of D, “San Antonio Rose” has two different A parts that follow the vocal melody as well as a bridge (or B part) that modulates to the key of A. Chad walks you through the melody phrase by phrase slowly, showing you how the melody outlines the chords.
