You’ll be relieved to know that there isn’t a hard-and-fast rule about getting every single melody note into your solo. In this video, Bill shows you a solo that integrates the “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” roll with the classic bluegrass song “Way Downtown,” which was first recorded by Uncle Dave Macon and revisited decades later by Doc Watson and the Stanley Brothers, among others. This solo combines both the full eight-note “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” roll with the seven-note variant, and includes a number of hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides.
