When three-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter/producer Joe Henry recently ordered a custom Collings 000 with the help of Folkway Music, the specs he requested raised eyebrows. Combining a 12-fret 000 body with a short 24 7/8 inch scale and making the body slightly deeper than standard created a unique tonality, and building the guitar according to Collings’ T-series specs, a first for a 12-fret 000, created a very special instrument. Collings is now offering a limited run of 24 instruments built in this style, which also include a sunburst finish, slotted peghead, and pyramid bridge.
In this video, Collings’ Mark Althans uses one of the resulting 0002H Custom T to perform “September Song.”
