Northfield has recently introduced a new Steve Gilchrist-designed tailpiece. Using a clamshell design with a hinge on the lower tail end, the new tailpiece is inspired by a design that Gilchrist first saw on a vintage Lyon & Healey mandolin, and which he has long used on his own custom instruments. Northfield’s version makes the design available to a wider audience, and it is a direct replacement for many instruments. In this video, Northfield’s Kjell Croce demonstrates how to replace the original tailpiece on one of the company’s F-models with the new Gilchrist one.
