Northfield introduced its guitar-shaped archtop and flattop octave mandolins several years ago, and has been a major force in the growing popularity of this low-tuned member of the mandolin family. Reacting to feedback from players who were asking for a more compact octave-tuned instrument, Northfield has now come out with the A-Style Wavelength octave mandolin. Featuring a 19-inch scale (Northfield’s guitar-shaped octave mandolins have a 22-inch scale), a West Virginian red spruce top and flamed Michigan maple back and sides, the Wavelength expands on Northfield’s already impressive octave mandolin offerings.
