Thompson Guitars is best known for their vintage-inspired instruments, but the company’s luthiers also enjoy the challenge of creating completely unique designs. Working with The North American Guitar Company, Thompson is creating a series of wildlife-inspired instruments, the first of which features a rattlesnake theme. In this video, Thompson inlay artist Simon Haycraft discusses his approach to the challenge, which includes a rosette that mimics a snake’s scales. The Wildlife Series # 1 guitar will be an OM model built with Brazilian rosewood back and sides and a moon-spruce top.
