Peghead Nation is excited to announce a brand new four-session live Zoom workshop series, Fluid Clawhammer Banjo: G Tuning, with Evie Ladin!

A lot of banjo players find themselves stuck playing tunes and songs in the exact same way each time, relying on well-worn patterns and habits, and unable to react to the music happening around them. Most intermediate players want the freedom to play both known and new songs in any jam, whether it’s a straight-up old-time jam, folk, bluegrass, songwriter, or backing themselves up on original material. In this intensive workshop, Evie Ladin will teach you how to move beyond familiar positions and playing by rote to a more fluid, intuitive way of playing clawhammer banjo, all while using common tunes and songs. Working with movable chord shapes and finger patterns in G tuning, you’ll discover practical ways to connect the banjo neck, recognize musical patterns, and build the skills you need to play with greater freedom, confidence, and versatility in any musical setting.

The four live Zoom sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:45 pm PST (8:30 to 9:45 pm EST), starting on Tuesday, September 8, and ending on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Fluid Clawhammer Banjo: G Tuning is ideal for players with a basic foundation in clawhammer banjo playing, the bum-ditty technique, and first-position chords, and who can play a few tunes. In this workshop, you’ll learn to use basic clawhammer techniques more creatively and to apply them in the moment.

The fee for the four-part Fluid Clawhammer Banjo: G Tuning series is $150. Each live workshop will be recorded in high-quality video and audio and edited for viewing and study both during the course and after its conclusion. Live workshop registrants will retain permanent access to Fluid Clawhammer Banjo: G Tuning as part of their Peghead Nation account.

Fluid Clawhammer Banjo: G Tuning with Evie Ladin

In Fluid Clawhammer Banjo: G Tuning, Evie Ladin guides you through learning movable chord shapes and finger patterns to give you practical ways to navigate and connect the banjo neck, with lots of practice time and tips. You’ll work on transitioning smoothly between areas of the neck, recognizing useful note relationships and variations, finding any chord you might want, and using just what you need to move quickly for easier flow. You’ll focus on a newfound knowledge of the fretboard to react and play based on what’s going on around you. The goal is to feel more relaxed, confident, and free while playing clawhammer banjo with other musicians.
