SESSION 4 | Saturday, February 27 | Variations on “Soldier’s Joy” and “June Apple”
In Session 4, Sharon will work on more embellishment techniques and variations on “Soldier’s Joy” and will show you how to use some of the same ideas to embellish and vary “June Apple.”
No new materials for this session, but refer to your materials for “Soldier’s Joy” from Session 3. And you can find the notation for the basic version of “June Apple” in the PDF that we included with the pre-workshop materials, here:

SESSION 3 Video, from Saturday, February 13
For Session 3, Sharon worked with students on “Soldier’s Joy,” with simple variations on the basic melody, and versions in the higher and lower octaves. She also taught a Bill Monroe solo on “Soldier’s Joy” in which he simplifies the melody so he can play it at a fast tempo. The notation and tab materials she provided before the session are below, and Sharon has added notation and tab for Monroe’s solo.
