2024 Wayne Henderson 12-Fret Dreadnought
Peghead Nation instructor Greg Schochet demonstrates his Norman Blake-inspired flattop.
Colorado-based flatpicking expert Greg Schochet is the latest addition to Peghead Nation’s roster of instructors. In his new Norman Blake–Style Guitar course, Greg breaks down Blake’s legendary picking style, and it comes as no surprise that his guitar of choice is also informed by Blake’s instruments. Virginia guitarist and luthier Wayne Henderson built this homage to a pre-war Martin D-18 that Blake was long associated with, and which Wayne was able to inspect. Following the original 12-fret dreadnought design, the guitar has an Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a slotted peghead. In this video, Greg talks about the guitar, his process of ordering it directly from Wayne, and he demonstrates its sound with some Norman Blake-style picking.
