Peghead Nation Monroe-Style Mandolin instructor Mike Compton has owned several Gilchrist instruments, starting with the very first Gilchrist F-5 sold in the United States, back in 1979. Mike’s friendship with Stephen Gilchrist has enabled numerous visits to the luthier’s workshop in Australia, and accordingly, he is very familiar with Gilchrists from every era. Mike has previously demoed his 2002 Gilchrist F-5, as well as his 2004 Model 4. Mike recently acquired a 2004 Model 5 that previously belonged to his late friend Peters Day of Paris, France, and in this video, he talks about what makes the instrument special.
