Compton and Newberry: “Jenny Lynn”
Our Monroe-Style Mandolin instructor Mike Compton plays a Bill Monroe classic with his duo partner, Joe Newberry.
Mike Compton and Joe Newberry have played together as a duo for many years, touring, writing, and recording as Compton & Newberry in between many other musical projects that each is involved in. We’re excited that they will soon be releasing a new recording of their duo music, so keep an eye out for that later this summer.
Mike and Joe treated us to an evening of original and traditional songs and tunes full of fine mandolin, clawhammer banjo, and acoustic guitar when they recently came through Peghead Nation’s hometown and played a fun set at Studio Fourth Street, a lovely new listening room and music space in downtown San Rafael, California. During the show, Compton and Newberry played this great version of Bill Monroe’s “Jenny Lynn.”
You can also hear them play Mike’s original song “Death and Blues” from that evening, here on Peghead Nation.
