Ethan explores some extended rhythm techniques in this week’s video. He starts by introducing a pick-angle approach that Mike Marshall uses to give a percussive edge to his chop grooves. Then he shows you how to incorporate some right-hand triplets to overlay a basic 4/4 groove with accents that create more of a 6/8 or 12/8 feel. Next, he shows you a way to combine some of those right-hand techniques with some deft left-hand muting and tapping moves that build a multidimensional rhythm section on a single instrument.
