“Inverness” comes from fiddler/mandolinist John Mailander, who recorded it on his album Walking Distance. It’s a beautiful, contemplative melody that alternates measures of 6/4 and 4/4. Joe walks you through the second part of “Inverness” in this video.

Guitarist Russ Barenberg penned “Here on Earth,” which he recorded with Dobro player Jerry Douglas and bassist Edgar Meyer on their 1993 album Skip, Hop & Wobble. This laid-back meditation in the key of D works nicely as a solo piece on the octave mandolin. Joe walks you through the A part in this video.
