Fiddler Kevin Burke and guitarist Mícheál Ó Domhnaill composed “Up in the Air” for their seminal 1982 Portland album. It’s the final tune in a great three-jig medley, and it has since become a favorite in the traditional Irish tune canon. The tune is in the key of B minor, with the second part starting in the relative major key of D. You’ll play most of it in second position. Flynn teaches the A part of the tune in this video.
