Noted Tin Pan Alley songsmith Walter Donaldson penned “My Blue Heaven” with lyricist George A. Whiting, and it’s been a jazz, swing, and pop favorite since 1927, when Gene Austin topped the charts with a recording that featured piano, cello, and whistling. Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli recorded a considerably more swinging version during their Rome sessions of 1949. Aaron teaches the AABA-format tune in the key of Eb, which shouldn’t dissuade anyone from tackling this classic.
