Continuing with themes he presented in his lesson on Dominant Seventh Chords, Grant shows you how to take second and third inversions of a C chord and “spread” the voicing by moving the middle voice to a higher octave. He then walks you through a method of building dominant chords based on that new spread voicing by moving the fifth up a minor third or the tonic down a second. Then Grant shows you a way to use those new chords to move through a descending circle of fourths, starting and ending on a C7 chord. Finally, he gives some tips on using different right-hand techniques to build the circle exercise into a real workout. Grant gives you the basic tools for building spread triads and converting them to dominant chords in this video.
