The Eighth of January, Part 1

“The Eighth of January” is a well-known fiddle tune in the key of D. Its melody was used by Arkansas school teacher Jimmy Driftwood for the song “The Battle of New Orleans,” which he wrote for his students and which went on to become a number one pop hit in 1959. Sharon walks you through the first part of “The Eighth of January” phrase by phrase, giving you lots of opportunities to play along with her.
