In this video, Sharon has Paul demonstrate the I, IV, and IV (G, C, and D) chords in the key of G in first-position on the guitar and then play along on the bluegrass chestnut, “Bury Me Beneath the Willow.” Then she shows you how to recognize those same chord relationships in different keys when the guitarist uses the same G handshapes with a capo, including A on the second fret, Bb on the third fret, and C on the fifth fret. Sharon then repeats the exercise with Paul playing in the key of C in the first position. This time the I, IV, and V chords are C, F, and G in open position, or D, G, and A with a capo on the second fret. Finally, she shows you how to recognize the same pattern when the guitarist is playing open chords in first position in the keys of D and E.
