Eight New Dreadnoughts | Martin Guitar

Aged Authentics, StreetLegend, and satin-finished models to be introduced at NAMM.
March 27, 2023

Martin Guitars is adding eight new dreadnoughts to its catalog. As variations on the legendary D-18 and D-28 models, the guitars include satin-finish models, slightly pre-worn instruments, and two new Authentics. Watch for Peghead Nation demos of these instruments in the near future!

D-18 StreetLegend
The satin-finished top on the new StreetLegend includes some visual wear inspired by historic models found in the Martin museum, resulting in a well-loved look that shows your music has an old soul like many of the fine instruments we’ve curated over the years. The D-18 StreetLegend is crafted with satin-finished mahogany back and sides, so you’ll still enjoy plenty of volume and pick up some bright trebles and punchy midrange tones. The scalloped bracing on this model contributes volume and a fuller sound than non-scalloped bracing. It also includes open-gear aged tuners and a satin-aged pickguard to complete the aesthetic. List price: $2,399.

D-28 StreetLegend
As on the D-18 version of the guitar, D-28 Street-Legend (pictured at left) includes some visual wear inspired by historic models found in the Martin museum. The D-28 StreetLegend is crafted with satin-finished East Indian rosewood back and sides, which are very resonant and offer deep bass and rich overtones. It is well-balanced for all playing styles. It also includes open-gear aged tuners and a satin-aged pickguard to complete the aesthetic. List price: $2,799.

D-18 Satin
Martin Dreadnoughts are known for their loud, projective tone and strong bass. This new D-18 Satin is built to the same specifications as the standard D-18, but now Martin offers this longtime staple with a satin-finish top, back, and sides. The top includes an aging toner, and it is also available with an amberburst. D-18 Authentic 1937 VTS Aged
1937 was an excellent year for guitars, with a perfect storm of craftsmanship, innovation, and materials. This Authentic Series replication of a 1937 D-18 stays true to the original with hide glue construction and historically accurate detailing. This guitar features genuine mahogany back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top, and it includes an Authentic circa 1937 bracing pattern. Plus, it adds the Vintage Tone System® (VTS) that ages the wood to replicate the sound of a vintage Martin. Martin’s craftspeople can recreate the pleasing visual aesthetics of a vintage guitar and reproduce the particular tones previously reserved for vintage instruments. Now Martin has reintroduced a more accurate body profile based on dreadnought shapes from the early Golden Era of Martin’s history. The result is a tactile, visual, and auditory experience that will transport you all the way back to the 1930s. And we know you’re going to like it there. List price: $7,999.
