Tom Ellis has been building mandolins in Austin, TX, since the early 1970s. Along the way, he became an expert in inlay, and in 1993, he founded Precision Pearl, a leading supplier of custom inlays to many of the biggest musical instrument makers in the world. Today, Ellis Mandolins combines Tom’s refined skills as a luthier with the advanced manufacturing technology he has at his disposal at Precision Pearl. In this video, The Mandolin Store‘s Adam McIntosh demonstrates Ellis F5 Reserve #622. The instrument is built with a torrefied Adirondack spruce top and quilted maple back and sides, and also features a spectacular “Torch and Wire” peghead inlay.
