In January 2020, Peghead Nation is setting up its production facility at 32Ten Studios in San Rafael, California. 32Ten is a full video production and visual effects company with deep roots in world-class filmmaking and visual effects history, and their facility, housed on the historic Industrial Light and Magic lot, includes a massive sound stage with green screen walls, a beautiful screening theater, mixing rooms, model fabrication studios, and other professional production facilities.
The space was originally created by George Lucas to house the model making and other visual effects for his films, and it was also the early home of Skywalker Sound, responsible for the audio for some of the biggest film franchises in history. Scale models used in the special effects for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the Star Trek series, Pirates of the Caribbean, early Pixar films, and other blockbusters were fabricated and filmed on-site, and the 32Ten Studios team includes many of the professionals who helped create this cinematic history. They continue the work today, with effects for motion pictures and commercial applications, and full production services. See below for a reel that includes some of 32Ten’s recent work.
Peghead Nation’s studio is housed in a former mixing room that was used to mix sound for the Star Wars movies, now set up for small-scale video and audio production. And while we don’t envision adding warp-speed spacecraft to our instruction content (at least not yet), we look forward to adding the work of world-class roots musicians to the history of this special spot. And we thank the folks at 32Ten Studios for having Peghead Nation occupy a small corner of their vibrant, creative community.
