Aaron Weinstein recently taught an in-depth workshop series called Swing Mandolin: Rhythm and Chord Solos, in which he taught how to play swing rhythm mandolin and how to create rhythmic chord solos using eight classic jazz and swing tunes. We’re happy to announce that you can now subscribe to the course on Peghead Nation. Take a look at a sample lesson, above, and see the main Swing Mandolin: Rhythm and Chord Solos page for Aaron’s workshop overview, and to sign up.
If you’re playing mandolin in a swing or jazz band, most of the time you won’t be playing single-note solos, or chord-melody solos, you’ll be a part of the rhythm section, accompanying soloists or vocalists. Aaron teaches one jazz standard per session, with two ways to play through the changes, a basic version and a version with different sets of voicing choices. The standards will be “Sweet Georgia Brown,” I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” “After You’ve Gone,” “Lady Be Good,” “All of Me,” “Exactly Like You,” “I’ve Got Rhythm,” and “Undecided.”
