In the 30 years since the company’s founding, L.R. Baggs has continuously advanced its approaches to acoustic instrument amplification. Several years ago, Baggs developed the Anthem system for steel-string guitars, which featured the TruMic, a significant advance in the internally mounted microphone technology Baggs has long used as part of other multisource pickup systems. Combining an undersaddle pickup with a mic mounted to the guitar’s bridge plate, the Anthem uses an advanced preamp design that creates a very realistic tone. Since some players prefer not to have a pickup in their guitar at all, Baggs kept developing the unit’s TruMic microphone and preamp, ultimately coming up with the Lyric, an internal microphone system that works without a pickup. Having introduced a version for steel-string guitars in 2013, Baggs now offers a system designed for nylon-string guitars, demonstrated here installed in a guitar built by Lloyd Baggs in 1982.
