Larrivée began building guitars in Canada more than four decades ago, but has recently moved its entire production to the California facility it has operated since 2001. Although Larrivée has offered OM-style instruments for many years, the OM-40R is much more inspired by vintage designs than previous Larrivée models. Part of the company’s new Legacy series (which includes a mahogany-body OM as well as rosewood- and mahogany-body dreadnought) the OM-40R has a scalloped X-bracing pattern with angled tone bars rather than the symmetrical bracing pattern Larrivée is known for. It also includes includes period details such as herringbone purfling and open-back tuning machines. The guitar has a powerful, balanced voice that would suit fingerstyle and flatpicking styles alike.
SPECS: 000 body with 14-fret neck. Solid Sitka spruce top. Solid Indian rosewood back and sides. Mahogany neck with dovetail joint. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. 25.5-inch scale. 1¾-inch nut width.
