Taylor Jacob Collier Academy 5-String and GS Mini 5-String
Two tenor–guitar-derived instruments designed in collaboration with the Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist.
A virtuoso on multiple instruments, Jacob Collier’s genre-bending recordings and performances have earned him seven Grammy awards and countless fans around the world. Collier plays both four-string tenor guitars and standard guitars and had an idea for a five-string instrument. He worked with Taylor’s Andy Powers on creating a custom instrument, which led to the first Jacob Collier signature model guitar, a gorgeous all-koa grand concert. Now Taylor has released a pair of affordable Jacob Collier models, the Academy 22e 5-String and the GS Mini 5-String.
In this video, Peghead Nation’s Teja Gerken demonstrates both guitars, discusses Collier’s DAEAD tuning, and also plays the guitars in other tunings, including the traditional tenor-guitar tuning in fifths.
