Bob Taylor on Taylor Guitars’ Legacy Series
Peghead Nation’s Teja Gerken and Bob Taylor discuss the return of some classic models.
About a year ago, Taylor Guitars released its Legacy Collection, which comprises several of the company’s most significant models from earlier in its 50-year history. These instruments feature the same wood combinations and appointments as the original versions of the instruments, and like the originals, they are all X-braced. We’ve already demonstrated all current Legacy models, and you can see our videos of the 810e, 815e and 855e, 514ce and 714ce, as well as the 914ce. They are all impressive instruments.
I recently visited Taylor’s headquarters and factory in El Cajon, California, where I sat down with Bob Taylor to discuss the significance of the Legacy Collection. In this video, Bob talks about how working on the line brought him back to the workbench, his enjoyment of experimenting with the guitars’ designs, how his approach to building differs from that of (partner and master guitar designer) Andy Powers, and what additional Legacy models Taylor may be introducing in the future.
