Tony McManus, “Teolina”/”Sleep, Dearie, Sleep”
Peghead Nation Celtic Guitar instructor plays a beautiful tribute to the late Breton guitarist Soïg Sibéril.
Peghead Nation Celtic Guitar instructor Tony McManus is one of the most respected guitarists working in traditional music. Whether playing solo or in various duo or sideman contexts (for starters, check out his work with Alasdair Frasier, Beppe Gambetta, and Julia Toaspern), Tony’s playing always serves the tune at hand.
Tony recently stopped by the Peghead Nation video studio while on tour in California. In this clip, he plays a beautiful tribute to his friend and collaborator, Breton guitarist Soïg Sibéril, who passed away earlier this year. The first of the two pieces is Soïg’s tune “Teolina,” which Tony follows with the traditional Scottish bagpipe tune “Sleep, Deary, Sleep.” Tony is playing a Greenfield G1 built with Malaysian blackwood and German spruce in DADGAD tuning.
