Aaron Weinstein: “Auld Lang Syne”
Peghead Nation instructor kicks off our Holiday Songs for Mandolin workshop with a fun version of the holiday classic.
We kicked off the six-session workshop Holiday Songs for Mandolin with Aaron Weinstein this week, with a fun class in which Aaron taught beautiful, accessible versions of the classics “Auld Lang Syne” and “Let It Snow.” In this video, Aaron plays a more free-ranging version of “Auld Lang Syne” to welcome folks into the first Zoom session and to show us where all that he’s teaching in this workshop can go!
If you want to join the fun, jump in now to check out the video of Session 1 and get ready for the rest of the workshop, with Session 2 coming up on Tuesday, November 18! Video recordings and notation/tab PDF downloads are included in all sessions, and you’ll retain access to all of this material as part of your Peghead Nation login, so you can review after the live sessions are over, and refresh your memory every holiday season!
In Holiday Songs for Mandolin, Aaron will guide you through two familiar holiday classics in each live Zoom session. He’ll teach you simple, accessible arrangements of the melodies enhanced with simple chords. For players who prefer to focus just on the melody, Aaron’s arrangements will work without the chords. You’ll also learn accompaniment for each tune, including simple, functional chord voicings so you can provide tasteful backup for singers or other instrumentalists. Aaron’s teaching style emphasizes clarity and accessibility, so even if you’re new to chord melody playing or arranging, you’ll come away with arrangements of holiday classics that you can use right away in gatherings with family and friends.
