Stevie Coyle with Evie Ladin: “Compadres in the Old Sierra Madre”
Our fingerstyle guitar instructor plays a Riders in the Sky song, with a little help from his Peghead Nation compadre.
Peghead Nation Fingerstyle Guitar instructor Stevie Coyle is a long-time San Francisco Bay Area performer and the proprietor of Mighty Fine Guitars, a high-end guitar shop in Lafayette, California. Stevie recently played Judy Nee’s Songwriter’s Parlor in Fairfax, California, with his Peghead Nation compadre Evie Ladin, and Bay Area songwriter Maggie Forti joining him in the evening’s round robin.
In this video, Stevie plays “Compadres in the Old Sierra Madre,” written by Woody Paul (Paul Chrisman) and first recorded by Riders in the Sky in 1981. Stevie recorded the song with the Waybacks (which he co-founded and was a part of until 2007) for their album Devolver, and he performs the great song often. Partway through this take, Evie joins Stevie, playing body percussion and singing harmonies. You can always count on your fellow Pegheads!
