In this lesson, Marla continues talking about her approach to accompaniment, this time in the key of E minor, or actually E Dorian. The main chords you’ll use in E Dorian are Em and D major. You’ll also use the relatives of those, the relative major of E minor (G) and the relative minor of D (Bm). Marla also shows you how to use the C and A major chords as substitutions. She goes through “Lafferty’s” phrase by phrase, showing you a variety of substitutions. To practice your accompaniment in E minor, you can use Marla’s Play-Along Track for Lafferty’s as well as some other tunes she’s taught, “The Dunmore Lasses” for example, or the jigs “The Killavil Jig” and “Dever the Dancer.”
