Fifth-Position Chords, Part 1: Chord Voicings and “The High Reel”
In this lesson, Flynn shows you how to play in fifth position in the keys of A major, A minor, and A modal. Fifth position means that your main root chord will be up the neck with your index finger at the fifth fret. Flynn starts by showing you how to move an F chord up to fifth position to create an A major chord. Then he shows you how to play in A modal using new fifth-position voicings for A, G, and D chords, and how to use those voicings to play a tune you’ve already learned: “The High Reel.” He also shows you a rolling strum that he learned from the playing of Paul Brady.
