Mark Hanson, Part 3: Mark’s Goodall, Collings, and Martin Guitars
Mark demonstrates his Goodall Concert Jumbo, Collings SJ, and Martin D-28 guitars in this video. His Goodall (which he uses for his “Parasol Spin” lesson) was built in the company’s Kona, Hawaii, shop in 2009. It has Indian rosewood back and sides and a Sitka spruce top. Mark’s 1993 Collings SJ was his main guitar prior to acquiring the Goodall, and it still gets frequent use. It has mahogany back and sides and a Sitka spruce top and is outfitted with K&K and Sunrise pickups, which are wired to a stereo output jack. Finally, Mark talks about how he and his father drove all the way from Minnesota to Nashville, Tennessee, in the mid-1970s to purchase his 1966 Martin D-28 from George Gruhn, of Gruhn Guitars. This guitar has since had its braces shaved to prewar D-28 specs by Frank Ford of Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, California, and has been used on many of Mark’s recordings. accentonmusic.com
