Northfield NFS-F2

A great oval-hole F-style mandolin with an innovative take on traditional design.

Northfield is known for offering high-quality instruments inspired by traditional design at relatively affordable prices. The company’s S-series is perhaps the best example of its commitment to high value: As streamlined versions of Northfield’s Master series, these instruments feature a satin finish and simplified appointments, but are built by the same team of luthiers. When Peghead Nation education editor and long-time San Francisco Bay Area multi-instrumentalist Paul Kotapish was looking for an oval-hole mandolin, he found that a Northfield NFS-F2 offered a perfect mix of the traditional oval-hole sound that he was looking for to play old-time and Irish music, while offering a feel that is similar to the F5-style mandolin that is his main instrument. In this video, Paul demonstrates the mandolin and discusses how it fits into his musical needs.
